So many things... so many small, niggling things...
Not having wind chimes.
Not throwing rice or confetti at weddings.
Not saying a toast 🥂 or clinking glasses.
Not saying “bless you” after someone sneezes.
Not wishing someone good luck.
i was just lying here thinking about mind control and thought it'd write a list just to see how much the wts does try to control every aspect of people's lives.
some of the things i've come up with are:.
xmas,.
So many things... so many small, niggling things...
Not having wind chimes.
Not throwing rice or confetti at weddings.
Not saying a toast 🥂 or clinking glasses.
Not saying “bless you” after someone sneezes.
Not wishing someone good luck.
many members on here have been shunned.
we know whats its like--and the effect it has had on our lives.
but what about those of us who practiced shunning before--when we were members of the watchtower cult ?.
To my great regret, the JW religion and its practices “fit” into some twisted, wounded part of my soul — a part that is finally healing and growing and learning —
But the religion’s darker aspects (like shunning) fit into my “punishing” mental aspect at the time... I felt very spiritual, loyal, faithful, whatever crap, when I studiously shunned someone.
I remember actually feeling surprised when a DF’d person would be hurt or angry by my shunning them, because weren’t they supposed to appreciate my faithful stand and be moved to return to Jehovah...??
(If they responded angrily, it meant my shunning was “justified” because they obviously didn’t appreciate or understand the loving discipline and spiritual correction from Jehovah... And if they seemed sad, this was very confusing to me too, because perhaps it meant they didn’t understand or appreciate spiritual things...?)
...
The very thought of that mindset now makes me sick to my stomach. It hurts my head, and heart.
...
my sister sent me this youtube.
in it are witnesses waving their phone lights and dancing in the aisles.
sorry if this vid has been posted before.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4k7iw-zisgw.
Wow.... just... wow. Gobsmacked....
PeteZaHut, Magnum, you nailed it. This is such “blasphemy” and hypocrisy to their previous beliefs and constipated practices.
When you think that just a few years ago, they were counselling couples against hugging during prayers or excessive hand-holding (thus being ‘distracting’ or even ‘stumbling’ to others) and taking away the focus from Jehovah (thus elevating themselves and perhaps being guilty of pride and/or displaying a lack of humility toward the dignity of theocratic worship, blah, blah, blah)... well!!!! The head spins.
And the song!!! “How does it make you FEEL?” !?!?!?!????!!!??? I mean, FEEL????? The religion which previously and pompously paraded their propagandist crap about NOT feeling and NOT being emotional - where they TAUGHT and EDUCATED (their words) their followers through “accurate knowledge” and “study” and not through sentiment, feeling, or emotionalism (something they sneered at when other religions did this!)
HYPOCRITES!
Vipers!
Backwards, self-righteous, smug, clueless, inept, bumbling, stumbling - idiots - blind leading the blind - blatant religious idiocy and hypocrisy - ridiculous attempt at relevancy - total awkwardness -
I am spluttering with sheer gobsmackedness at their attempts to become .... whatever the hell they’re attempting to become!
hahaha, i’m so “brazen”, lol.
but we’ve had the jws be pretty active in our territory recently, and i got to say this to them on two separate occasions, to three different borgites, lol!
(it was a glorious moment for me, haha!).

They were trying to tell me about their wonderful website and TV broadcasting channel and I said, “Ah yes, THE ‘GOVERNING BODY’ SHOW!”
(Pause for effect, timing... gauge reaction of audience...)
— And yes, there it was!! — That JW frown of disapproval, of knowing they’re hearing something “not quite right” and which is possibly disrespectful toward their dear GB leaders — but also possibly implanting a new thought or interpretation on how they could now view this TV channel or their dear leaders...
OMG, it was the best... to see that frown on their faces (ALL OF THEM REACTED THE SAME WAY!) and knowing that I could just “leave that there,” hanging in space, soaking into their brain (hopefully)!
... and possibly helping them to see that they are being led (perhaps astray?) by men, mere men, mere mortal men (“...do not put your trust in nobles nor in the son of earthling man who have no power of salvation...”) — men who constantly title themselves and glorify themselves — these Pharisee men with their doctrines and decrees, their new light and rules and threats and punishments... oooh, aaah! — the great governing body (or do we capitalize that now?) — *The Great Governing Body* — and their ‘GOVERNING BODY’ SHOW!!
— and haha, YES! — to have seen that frown on their face, to have witnessed their discomfort — perhaps they were hearing this expression for the first time — and yet there was *no response* from any of them, they all stood there, all ill at ease, all looking at me uncomfortably, and they could not, and did not respond to my comment!
💕
It is how I will always now refer their website and TV channel, haha.
“THE ‘GOVERNING BODY’ SHOW!!”
💕
I think it’s subtle, crafty, and thought-provoking.... (cautious as serpents, gentle as doves)
I would like to think that I came up with this expression from my own originality, but I’m sure it’s out there. 😄
so the guy in my office on the desk next to me has just got back from the funeral of his wifes sister.
this was his first time in a kh and full on exposure to jwdom.. bit of background: the deceased jw was not a born in, she was a convert when she was in her teens.
she died last week at the age of 82. the poor old dear was still zealously knocking on doors while in ill health.
Yes, maybe in time they will learn to respect people for the unique people and personalities that we are and that bringing appropriate honour to us also brings honour to the Creator/God/Great Spirit/Allah/Universe/Energy/Love Source from which we sprang....
something just dawned on me today as i processed my assimilation into the real world (thanks to our new poster, @jester, giving me a major throwback to my first post).. when you're a jehovah's witness, you really are in some sort of la la land.
things which are perfectly normal are acts of eating from the table of the demons.
things which are horribly grotesque and extremely unjust are branded as "righteousness".
That was an awesome post, JoHo..! It really is like peeling back layers from an onion to see how indoctrinated and controlled we were.
You don’t know what you don’t know...
I’m about 5-10 years out, and it really has been a journey of awakening and insights and “revelations”, which are still happening and which still amaze me.
Your thoughts about “privileges” vs. “rights” is so Orwellian (have you read “1984”??) and is such an example of black-white thinking and the cognitive dissonance which occurs when one tries to explain or justify it. (Freedom=slavery, war=peace <—-Orwell, “1984”.)
hypocrites!
i know we have spoken of this before, but in light of the appaling november 2017 jwdotorg broadcast, these scriptures just need to be highlighted!.
please re-read them, and tell me if they don't apply to the society !?!.
I looked up these scriptures in the new NWT:
Romans 2: 21, 22 - “21 do you, however, the one teaching someone else, not teach yourself? You, the one preaching, “Do not steal,” do you steal? 22 You, the one saying, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You, the one abhorring idols, do you rob temples?”
Matthew 23: 3 - “3 Therefore, all the things they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but they do not practice what they say.”
“best life ever” is displayed at watchtower farms, near pine bush.
the jehovah’s witnesses' maze is a work of devotional art, and not intended for exploration like the pagan ones made for hudson valley tourists every halloween.

Ha, I missed seeing this the first time round. But I can see that it’s supposed to be a man in a tractor, and he is waving... the two large circle things near the bottom of the picture are the tractor wheels. And you can see the barn (much smaller than the giant tractor) on the right, and rolling hills or plowed fields on the left, with some sort of fence on the left. I guess the best way of life is.... farming...?
taking a walk down memory lane at those looooonnnnngg, tedious conventions... .
(boy, they weren’t kidding when they spoke about being long-suffering and having endurance!).
but what were some of your convention highlights, or lowlights, from back in the day?.

I remember:
- taking endless notes
- shifting uncomfortably constantly
- walking aimlessly around the coliseum till you spotted somebody you knew and then it was a big deal to say hello and find out where they were sitting so you could resume walking aimlessly around again...
on another thread, undercover suggested "adam and the dinosaurs".. i came up with these:.
